Helping Students Succeed in Academics
Washington Academy's Student Success Lab helps students to succeed! We offer literacy, writing, and math support on a pull-out basis during the school day for students in first-sixth grade. Our students have been identified by their classroom teachers as needing additional support with reading, writing, comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, word usage, and math skills. The lab is open daily with students working one-on-one and in small groups with Literacy Coaches. Our staff works with each student's classroom math and literacy programs, but also will go above and beyond to help each student succeed. There is regular communication between the staff, classroom teachers, school psychologist, school social worker and parents to ensure that every student's individual needs are being met.
Resources
A variety of materials are used to go above and beyond the traditional classroom content. No child learns in the same way. Some students are visual learners, while others are tactile learners. Others are auditory learners. To engage all types of learners, technology plays an important role in this process. Students are exposed to engaging, interactive, research-based computer software programs to reach every single learning style. The games played make learning and enhancing literacy skills a fun and interactive experience! We also use board games, flash card games, and a number of other innovative ways to teach.
